TEXAS HEALTH INSTITUTE’S RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

We are very concerned about the systems-wide impact COVID-19 continues to have on our communities. We recognize that a robust response as well as long-term recovery and mitigation will require an "all hands on deck approach" with collaboration and coordination across multiple systems and partners. We also recognize that proactive and timely decision-making is crucial while utilizing existing capacities, and finding innovative and effective ways to adapt them for greater impact.

As the state’s public health institute, we are committed to leveraging our expertise, capacity, network, and infrastructure to facilitate and support the development and implementation of a coordinated response. To achieve the aforementioned objective of a systems-oriented, collective, and coordinated approach, we envision a phased approach with an increased emphasis on addressing immediate needs while systematically planning and developing a long-term recovery and mitigation plan. We have envisioned to lead and/or support activities across three phases, immediate, short-term, and long-term.

COVID-19 IN TEXAS: APPLYING AN EQUITY & SYSTEMS LENS TO RESPONSE & RECOVERY
ISSUE BRIEF AND WEBINAR SERIES

Picture
COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted our most vulnerable Texans, compounding existing health inequities and further exposing system-wide issues. Changing this narrative begins with a collaborative, evidence-informed re-thinking of the system.

We are pleased to share five issue briefs assessing the impact of COVID-19, developed with a community-first approach and applying a systems and equity lens. Following each release we held a webinar to unpack the insights shared and discuss emerging and/or needed efforts to address the systemic issues and improve health outcomes for all, particularly for marginalized Texans.

COVID-19 and its response efforts have had a system wide impact in our communities and impacted every Texan. To address this crisis and strengthen the impact of our collective efforts, INCOMMUNITY, is an online learning community developed by Texas Health Institute, the state’s public health institute.

INCOMMUNITY allows health experts across sectors to connect, discuss needs, share best practices, and build capacity to strengthen you in leading this fight from the forefront. Beginning with six topic based discussion groups, INCOMMUNITY is designed to scale, create private networks (based on requests), and share resources.
